Die Kolonie is a German feature film by Orlando Lübbert from 1987, the leading roles of which are Michael Degen , Elisabeth Degen and Grischa Huber . The plot is based on actual events, which are based on processes in fascist organized sects that mix with narrative elements of the political terror in Chile.
action
Nicole Brunner fell into the clutches of the German sect "Colonia Dignidad" in Chile , which deals in drugs. When she manages to get her father a message asking for help, he travels to the South American country, where Augusto Pinochet and his military dictatorship are in charge. Deeply concerned, he does everything in his power to save his daughter, but instead of helping him, the Chilean authorities hold him up and obstruct him.
In fact, there is a meeting between father and daughter in one of the camps, and Karl Brunner realizes that he has no chance of being able to take his child home with him. Father and daughter have become puppets in a terrible game.
Production, background
The film was produced by Xenon Film GmbH (Hamburg) in co-production with the Hamburg cinema company Hark Bohm Filmproduktions KG (Hamburg) and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (Cologne). The film recordings were made in Hamburg and Madrid. The first rental took place through FifiGe / AG Kino Hamburg (Hamburg).
Orlando is a director from Chile who has lived in Berlin since 1974. When the German Film and Media Assessment (FBW) was awarded the title “valuable” , the jury justified its decision with the restrictive comment that the committee “could not resist”, “that the director was too noticeable I remain personally attached to the material and from there I leave many interesting opportunities for acting and carefully developing the corresponding characters unused. It was acknowledged that this is “a challenging topic of our day” that “deserves special attention”.
reception
publication
The film opened in German cinemas on October 15, 1987. In Chile it ran under the title La Colonia . On August 22, 1988, it was broadcast for the first time on German television in the ARD program.
criticism
The film received the rating “valuable” from the Wiesbaden film evaluation office , with a “strikingly good photograph” highlighted, which “is able to relativize important social and political background”.
“A committed film that invokes true events, makes clear the intertwining of private and political interests and denounces torture as a despicable instrument of power. Convincing in terms of subject matter and well developed in the second half, the film suffers from logical leaps, a superficial psychological development and its television play dramaturgy. "
Award
The film received the rating “valuable”.
