The Melodias was a German dance band from the first post-war years .

history

The dance band worked in the immediate post-war period of World War II and was jointly directed by the pianist Hans Frieboes and the violinist Kurt Mehlig. Other members of the ensemble were Günter Goll ( clarinet and tenor saxophone ), Helmuth Schmidt (tenor saxophone and accordion ), Walter Rathke ( alto saxophone ), Paul Cornand ( guitar ), Horst Friese ( bass ) and Helmut Possner ( drums ). As “The Melodias - Dance Orchestra. Direction: Mehlig-Frieboes “the formation made recordings of German and international hits from 1947 for Deutsche Grammophon Hannover on their Polydor label. In 1948 they accompanied the singer Mimi Thoma with a small orchestra and in 1950 the zither virtuoso Alfred Wirth . A “dance orchestra 'Die Melodias', Hanover” played in April 1956 for the dance tournament for the German Television Prize.
