The selection is a German cold wave band from Stuttgart , whose special stylistic feature is the use of a trumpet , which is not typical for the genre .

history

The band Die Selektion emerged from the experimental post-punk project LUC ▲ at the end of 2010 . Due to a change in the line-up, the musical direction had changed so much that the decision was made to found a new band instead of continuing the previous project. In addition to Gillian, whose musical roots are in Wave and Neofolk , the band consisted of the classically trained trumpeter Hannes Rief, who also played in an orchestra , and Max Rieger , who was more influenced by techno. From these different orientations and the influences of EBM and synth-pop of the 1980s a danceable, melancholic style emerged, which stands out from other bands through the use of the trumpet. The band made a conscious decision to use German-language lyrics, also because, in their opinion, the German language goes particularly well with their music. The band was not satisfied with experiments in Italian . Despite the German lyrics, the band has international success.

In 2011 the Rasputin Records label first released the EP Kühleippen and then in April 2011 the mini album Noire on the Berlin label aufaufnahme + wiedergabe . In Fabrika Records in September, the album was followed by the selection as a record which of recording + playback in April 2012 as a CD and was released digitally.

Since the band members still went to school - Gillian and Rief attended a Waldorf school in Stuttgart - the band initially toured during the school holidays. During the 2011 autumn break, the band played several concerts in Italy . Further concerts in Germany and other European countries followed. By February 2013 the band had already performed in 11 different countries.

In 2012 Max Rieger left the band to concentrate on his other band, Die Nerven . In addition, he is now active as a producer and as a solo artist under the name All this violence . Rieger's place at Die Selektion was taken over by Samuel Savenberg in 2013. This meant a big change for the band, as Rieger had been mainly responsible for the songwriting until then.

The band members now live in three different cities. Gillian studies musicology in Karlsruhe , Savenberg comes from Lucerne in Switzerland . The second album, your voice is the origin of all violence , was recorded within a week at Club Komma in Esslingen , where Gillian regularly organizes events, and was released in 2017 on aufaufnahme + wiedergabe .
