content

The documentary is about older men who work as so-called gentlemen hosts on cruise ships . The gentlemen of the old school are familiar with the best manners and are passed on by agencies to cruise lines so that interested women can enjoy their stay on board. One of her main tasks is to be available as a dance partner for women who travel alone or whose partners are non-dancers. In addition, the gigolos hope to escape the everyday life of pensioners in this way. The film portrays two 70-year-olds on board the “ Deutschland ” and asks them about the topics of getting older and sex. In doing so, he also questions their individual ideas about happiness.

criticism

The film service judges, the film portrays the life of two “gentleman hosts” in a “formal, playful and humorous way”. "The lively glimpse into the microcosm of cruises also shows the huge machinery that keeps luxury going". Epd Film says, "without condescending irony, but with a fine sense of humor, director Bergmann not only throws the spotlight on gender relations in old age". He conveys "the little joys in life, making yourself beautiful, the lively tango swarming, sunbathing in a deck chair: an enchanting lightness of being infused with subliminal melancholy".
