Diedrich Schröder

Diedrich Schröder (born May 5, 1922 in Hammelwardersand ; † December 18, 2009 in Dornum ) was a German farmer and politician ( CDU ).

Life and work

Schröder was born as the son of a farmer on Hammelswardersand. After graduating from high school in 1941 and being drafted into the Wehrmacht , he took part in World War II as a soldier until 1945 . In 1946 he began studying agriculture at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , which he completed in 1949 with the examination as a qualified farmer.

In 1950, Schröder took over the management of the Wilhelminenhof in Dornumersiel as a practical farmer and breeder . In 1965 he became chairman of the association of East Frisian stock breeders and was president of the East Frisian rural people from 1967 to 1986 . From 1981 to 1992 he was President of the German Society for Zuchtungskunde (DGfZ). Then he was their honorary president until his death.

Political party

Schröder had been a member of the CDU since 1960.

Schröder was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1983. He was always elected via the Lower Saxony state list. From 1976 to 1983 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag Committee on Food, Agriculture and Forestry.
