Ranks of the People's Liberation Army (Navy)
The ranks of the navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army are identical to those of the land forces and differ only in the prefix Hai Jun ( Chinese 海军 - "Navy"). This article covers the current ranks and insignia .
From 1956 to 1965 the badges of rank of the Soviet armed forces were used. Unlike the Army and Air Force , the Navy used epaulettes as a badge of rank.
Officers
The current system of the ranks and badges of the officers dates from 1988 and is a revision of the ranks and badges of rank from 1955 to 1965. The rank of Hai Jin Yi Ji Shang Jiang (Admiral First Class) was never awarded and in 1994 it was abolished. With the introduction of the Type 7 uniforms in 2007, only shoulder flaps or sleeve badges are used.
