Dierk Berthel (* 1963 in Schweinfurt ) is a German sculptor .

Life

Dierk Berthel was born as the son of an architect in Schweinfurt and spent the first 10 years of his childhood there. From 1978 to 1981 he completed an apprenticeship as a stone mason and stone sculptor with Julius Katzenberger and then worked as a sculptor with a focus on stone sculpture. From 1984 to 1986 he attended the technical school for sculptors in Aschaffenburg, where he was a master student of Erwin Rager and Ernst Vollmer and graduated with a master's certificate. He has been a freelance sculptor since 1986.

He is married to the sculptor Christine Deuring-Berthel, has two sons and lives and works in Rannungen , Bad Kissingen district.

He intensified his exhibition activities from 2000 and has since taken part in numerous international sculpture symposiums . The focus of his sculptural work is on building art and art in public spaces . In these areas he has also been active as a specialist jury member at art competitions for years.

Experimental music is also part of his artistic work. In 2009 he founded the experimental sound project "Die Autoinduktiv und die Freunde der Raum-encoding Melodie" with the musician and sculptor Jan Polacek and in 2014 his solo project "Geräusdieb".

In 2019 Berthel had a lectureship in stone sculpture at the 22nd International Summer Academy for Fine Arts in Dresden .

Offices

For years, Dierk Berthel has been volunteering for the professional and socio-political issues of visual artists.

He is a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists (BBK) Lower Franconia , based in Würzburg . He has been a member of the Board of Management since 2008, and its 1st Chairman since 2011. Since then he has also been the first chairman of the BBK-Unterfranken social fund.

In 2015 he was elected as a member of the board of the BBK regional association of Bavaria , based in Munich .

Dierk Berthel is a delegate in the Association of Free Professions in Bavaria, based in Munich, and a delegate in the Federal Association of Visual Artists , based in Berlin and Bonn.
