Dieter Häussinger
Dieter Häussinger (born June 22, 1951 in Nördlingen ) is a German internist and university professor. He is full professor of internal medicine at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and director of the Clinic for Gastroenterology , Hepatology and Infectious Diseases , the Liver and Infection Center and the Hirsch Institute for Tropical Medicine at Arsi University, Ethiopia . He was spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 575 (2000–2011) and the Clinical Research Unit 217 (2009–2017). Since 2012 he has been the spokesman for the Collaborative Research Center 974 “Communication and system relevance in liver damage and regeneration”.
Life
Häussinger studied from 1970 to 1976 at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he received his doctorate in 1976. From 1976 to 1977 he was a medical assistant at the Nördlingen district hospital, from 1977 to 1978 he was a squadron doctor at the 1st submarine squadron in Kiel. In 1984 he completed his habilitation in internal medicine at the University of Freiburg and worked from 1979 to 1994 as a doctor at the Medical University Clinic in Freiburg .
In 1988 he was appointed adjunct professor at the University of Freiburg . In 1991 he was appointed to the Schilling Professorship of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft . In 1994 he took over the chair for internal medicine at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf . From 1998 to 2002 he was dean of the medical faculty at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and a member of the board of directors at Düsseldorf University Hospital. From 2000 to 2007 he was a member of the Medical Committee of the Science Council, from 2010 to 2018 he was a member of the Senate of the Leibniz Science Association (WGL). The Düsseldorf Clinic for Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases, which he heads, made headlines in March 2019 with the - as yet unsafe - healing of an HIV patient.
Häussinger is the editor or author of 15 monographs and over 600 original works.
