Dieter Leuze

Dieter Leuze (born February 20, 1933 in Heilbronn ) is a German lawyer and university professor . His areas of expertise are administrative law and copyright law. He was the founding chancellor of the comprehensive university in Essen, which had existed since 1972 .

Life

Dieter Leuze studied at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich and at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1957 he passed the 1st state examination in law , in 1960 he received his doctorate in Tübingen, and in 1962 he completed his training with the 2nd state examination in law. He then began a ministerial career in Baden-Württemberg - first in the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and from 1996 in the Ministry of Education .

When the comprehensive university in Essen was founded in 1972, he was the university's first chancellor. This function was retained until 1991 and was one of the defining personalities of the entire university. He continued to teach there until his retirement in 1998. Since 1988 he has taught at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he occasionally held lectures with Knut Ipsen . There he continues to work as an honorary professor even after his retirement .

After his retirement he began to work as a lawyer. He specializes in university law, civil service law, disciplinary law and employee invention law.

Together with Hartmut Krüger, Leuze played a key role in founding the "Association for the Promotion of German & International Science Law". He assumed the first chairmanship of the founding meeting in December 2004.

Dieter Leuze lives in Essen and is a member of the Board of Trustees and Senate of the FOM - University of Economics and Management in Essen.
