Dieter Schlegel

Dieter K. Schlegel (born October 13, 1924 in Dresden ; † April 10, 2013 ) was a German oral surgeon and university professor .

Career

He qualified as a dentist in Greifswald in 1950, and as a doctor in Berlin in 1954 . After his assistantship at the Charité, from 1958 specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery in Kiel. After habilitation in 1964 at the Medical Faculty of the University of Munich , he was a private lecturer there . In 1970 he was appointed adjunct professor at the Dental Clinic of the University of Munich and senior physician in charge. In 1971 he moved to the Hannover Medical School as a full professor . In 1977 he returned to the University of Munich as full professor and director of the Clinic and Polyclinic for Oral Surgery.

He was the founder, founding chairman and honorary chairman of the Association for the Promotion of Scientific Dentistry in Bavaria .

Training activity

As part of his work for the Bavarian State Dental Association (BLZK), he worked in the following areas:

  • 1985 to 2003 Chairman of the Equivalency Test Commission.
  • 1984 to 2010 Oral Surgery Examination Commission
  • 1969 to 1998 training advisor
  • 1980 to 1998 head of the Bavarian Academy for Dental Training
  • 1970 to 2004 head of the scientific program of the Bavarian Dental Association.

Professional activity

  • 1978 to 1998 board member of BLZK
  • 1978 to 2006 delegate to the Federal Assembly of the German Dental Association (BZÄK)
  • 1978 to 2012 delegate of the BLZK.

Honors

  • Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany
  • Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany (1987)
  • Honorary doctorate from the Universities of Budapest, Thessaloniki and Chiang Mai
  • Gold Medal of Honor of the German Dental Association
  • Decoration of honor of the Bavarian State Dental Association
