Dietmar Bock

Dietmar Bock (born June 7, 1959 in Oberndorf am Neckar ) is a German diplomat who was the first ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Djibouti between 2010 and 2013 .

Life

After training as a reserve officer with the mountain troops in Berchtesgaden (first lieutenant dR), he studied law in Regensburg and Tübingen. After taking the first state examination in law in June 1986 and completing the civilian traineeship, he joined the Foreign Service in May 1987 as a member of the 42nd crew . After passing the career examination in April 1989, he was employed as a legal, press and cultural officer at the German Embassy in Guatemala City until 1991, and from 1991 to 1994 he worked as a consultant for legal, in particular asylum, questions at the German Embassy Damascus joined.

From 1994 it was used in the NATO department at the headquarters in Bonn . From 1997 to 2001 Bock was an economic advisor at the German Embassy in Canberra . He then worked as deputy head of the Turkey / Cyprus / Malta division at the headquarters in Berlin . From 2004 to 2007 Bock was head of the international affairs division in the Thuringian State Chancellery in Erfurt . He then worked from 2007 to 2010 as permanent deputy head of the German Consulate General in Los Angeles with responsibility for economic, energy and environmental issues.

From June 2010 to July 2013, Bock was the first German ambassador based in the Republic of Djibouti . His successor there was Wolfgang Piecha , who was previously the ambassador's permanent representative in Mexico.

From July 2013 to July 2016 he was German Consul General in Recife / Pernambuco with responsibility for the nine federal states of north-east Brazil.

From July 2016 to mid-July 2019, he was employed as a liaison officer for the Foreign Office at the Head of the Strategy and Operations Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense.

Since July 19, 2019, he has headed the Regional Germany Center Africa based in Pretoria.

He has been married since 1989.
