Dietmar Feichtinger (born November 18, 1961 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian architect who works in Paris .

biography

After graduating with honors from the Graz University of Technology in 1988 , he moved to Paris , where he founded Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes in 1994. Today the company has 35 employees. The implemented projects cover a wide range of construction projects such as schools, swimming pools, office and residential buildings.

A conscious structural approach with innovative technical solutions and sustainable and energy-optimized concepts characterize the designs of the office. The architecture is sensitive to its surroundings. In addition to 6 nominations for the Mies van der Rohe Prize , the European prize for contemporary architecture, the quality of the buildings by Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes was recognized with numerous prizes and recognitions. In 2014 Dietmar Feichtinger was elected permanent member of the Academy of the Arts in Berlin .

In 1998 he won the competition for the Passerelle Simone-de-Beauvoir over the Seine . The bridge, with a total length of 304 meters and a free span of 190 m, is the first of 37 Parisian bridges that bears the name of a female personality. It was opened on July 13, 2006 by Mayor Bertrand Delanoë and connects the French national library , Site Mitterrand (Paris 13th arrondissement) with the Parc de Bercy (Paris 12th arrondissement).

In 2002 Dietmar Feichtinger won the competition for the new access structure to Mont Saint-Michel . The mountain and its bay have been part 1979 for World Heritage of UNESCO . The “footbridge”, as Dietmar Feichtinger calls the bridge with a total length of 1841 m, has been open to pedestrians since July 2014 and to shuttle traffic since November 2014. During the great tides, the monastery mountain becomes an island thanks to the work to restore its maritime character, initiated in 1995 under the supervision of the Syndicat Mixte Baie du Mont Saint Michel. Even if the Austrian architect does not call himself a “bridge specialist”, he is the author of 13 bridges built in Europe, including elegant and slender passages such as the Dreiländerbrücke over the Rhine (one of the world's longest arched bridges , 238 m) and the Passerelle de la Paix (2014) in Lyon , which connects the Caluire-et-Cuire district with the Cité Internationale de Lyon.

Feichtinger is currently working at the Neuroscience Research Center on the CEA Saclay campus as part of Operation Paris-Saclay, one of the most important projects of the Grand Paris, a project to reform the structure of the Paris metropolitan area. Another of his current works is the pedestrian bridge “L'Aldilonda” on the coast of Bastia , Corsica.
