Dietmar Koschmieder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dietmar Koschmieder (born November 6, 1955 in Lörrach ) is the managing director of the daily newspaper Junge Welt and an active member of the German Communist Party (DKP), for which he ran several times in elections.

Life

Koschmieder is a former teacher. In 1991 he became the business editor of the Junge Welt and until 1994 was the only member of the editorial board from West Germany. From 1992 he was a works council and in 1995, as head of the economic department , he became chairman of the works council. After the announcement of the bankruptcy of the young world in April 1995, he and colleagues founded an “action committee” to save the newspaper through a “belated management buy-out ”. That was successful: after an eight-day break, on April 13, 1995, the young world appeared again in the newly founded publishing house 8. Mai GmbH and with Koschmieder as the co-operative elected managing director.

In 1997 Koschmieder deposed editor-in-chief Klaus Behnken in the dispute over the political orientation of the young world , whereupon the workforce expressed solidarity with Klaus Behnken and occupied the editorial offices. In the same building on a different floor, Koschmieder and three editors who remained loyal to him produced emergency editions. "The dispute centered on the subject of anti-Semitism and the focus on Eastern issues advocated by the publisher."

As part of the Benno Ohnesorg Congress, which was held from May 30 to June 1, 1997 at the Technical University , a public panel discussion between both groups was organized. In the course of this discussion between the panelists Jürgen Elsässer and Koschmieder, a member of the squatting faction Koschmieder pressed a piece of cherry cake in the face . The editors around Klaus Behnken then founded the weekly newspaper Jungle World .

Since the beginning of his time as managing director, Koschmieder has been considered the decisive person for the editorial policy of the young world . In 2008 Koschmieder defended the Lower Saxony state parliament member of the party Die Linke , Christel Wegner , against criticism after she had justified the building of the wall and the state security service of the GDR. He also appeared in the media in the dispute over the “Thank You” front page of the Junge Welt in 2011 for the construction of the Wall, in 2012 in the context of the economic crisis in the Junge Welt and in 2016 as part of the expansion of the Junge Welt into Switzerland.

Dietmar Koschmieder lives in Berlin. He is a member of the DKP and was a multiple candidate for the Berlin DKP in elections, for example in 2016 as its top candidate in the election for the House of Representatives .

Prices

In 2008, together with the Cuban Five , he was awarded the Prize for Solidarity and Human Dignity of the Alliance for Social Justice and Human Dignity .
