Dietrich Kremp (born January 28, 1937 in Röbel / Müritz ; † September 17, 2017 in Dessau ) was a German theoretical physicist and professor emeritus at the University of Rostock .

Life

After graduating from high school in Waren (Müritz), Dietrich Kremp studied physics at the University of Rostock from 1956 to 1961 . After his diploma he worked in Hans Falkenhagen's research group on the theory of electrolytes and received his doctorate in 1965 under Hans Falkenhagen with the thesis Consideration of short-range forces in the statistical mechanics of irreversible processes in a system of charged and neutral particles . After completing his habilitation in 1968 with Günter Kelbg on the quantum statistics of many-particle systems with Coulomb interaction, he became a university lecturer in Rostock in 1969. In 1971 he moved to the Güstrow University of Education and became a full professor there. In 1979 he returned to the University of Rostock for a chair in theoretical physics. From 1982 to 1989 he was director of the physics section. In 2002 he retired.

His main areas of work were statistical physics , especially quantum statistics, plasma physics and electrolyte theory. He was particularly interested in the application of the method of Green's functions in quantum statistics. He has published several highly cited articles in international journals. Werner Ebeling , Wolf-Dietrich Kraeft, Hans Falkenhagen, Gerd Röpke , Manfred Schlanges, Thomas Bornath, Michael Bonitz and Dirk Semkat were among his co-authors . He was visiting professor in Moscow, Providence, Managua and Tucson.

On his 60th birthday in 1997, an issue of the Journal of Contributions to Plasma Physics was dedicated to him.
