Dino Gregory Jr. (born August 14, 1989 ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, Gregory has been playing as a professional in Europe since 2011. With the German first division team Phoenix Hagen he reached the play-offs for the German championship in the 2012/13 basketball Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history . He was the best shot blocker in the league this season with 1.8 blocks per game. His father of the same name was also facing a career as a professional basketball player when he was selected in the 1982 NBA draft in the fourth round of the Washington Bullets . In the end, however, he did not play in the NBA .

Career

Gregory went to school at Mount St. Joseph College in Baltimore and then went to college at the University of Maryland, College Park in the same state. There he played from 2007 for the university team Terrapins in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) of the NCAA . In one of the strongest NCAA conferences, the Terps are among the more successful teams in the past, but during Gregory's season it was not enough for a title in the ACC. In 2009 and 2010 you could still qualify for the national NCAA finals , in which you were eliminated in the second round. For Gregory, in contrast to his former teammate Greivis Vásquez, however, after the end of his college days, it was not enough for a club from the highest endowed professional league NBA.

Nevertheless, Gregory began a professional career in 2011 and signed a contract in the Svenska Basketligan with the Dragons from Sundsvall . However, the Swedish champions and defending champions were eliminated early in the first round in the play-offs for the championship. Then Gregory got a contract in the German basketball league , in which he reached the championship play-offs with Phoenix Hagen in the 2012/13 season for the first time after their promotion to the top division in 2009. Gregory was able to distinguish himself personally as the best “ shot blocker ” in the league with 1.8 blocks per game. In the first round of the play-offs, defending champion Brose Baskets was eliminated in four games. After the successful season, Gregory extended his contract in Hagen .
