Disulfur dibromide is an inorganic chemical compound of sulfur from the group of bromides .
Extraction and presentation
Disulfur dibromide can be obtained by reacting sulfur with bromine or disulfur dichloride with hydrogen bromide .
properties
Disulfur dibromide is a dark red, oily liquid that does not wet the glass and decomposes with water to form hydrogen bromide, sulfur dioxide and sulfur. It dissociates into the elements when heated and can therefore only be distilled without decomposition in a high vacuum. In the solid state it has an orthorhombic crystal structure .
