The Sardinian disc beater ( Discoglossus sardus ) is a frog that grows on Sardinia , Caprera , La Maddalena , San Pietro , Corsica , Îles Lavezzi , in southeastern France in the Var department , on the Îles d'Hyères and in Italy, on Monte Argentario in the Tuscany , as well as on the islands of Giglio and Montecristo . It inhabits a wide variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats. In Corsica he lives together with the Corsican disc beater and, in contrast to them, also walks in slightly brackish water . In Corsica an altitude distribution of up to 1770 meters was determined (upper reaches of the Tavignano ). The Sardinian disc beater lays its spawn between aquatic plants in streams.
features
The Sardinian disc beater differs from its Corsican relatives by its more pointed snout and its shorter hind legs. Like this, it becomes 5.5 to 6 centimeters long and usually has a dotted pattern in different shades of brown. The fourth finger becomes progressively thinner from the base to the tip.
protection
The Sardinian disc curler is listed by the European Union in Annexes II and IV of the Habitats Directive and is therefore a species of community interest that must be strictly protected, for whose preservation special protected areas must be designated by the member states.
