The district of Aguas Verdes ( Aguas Verdes Spanish for "green water") is located in the province of Zarumilla in the Tumbes region in the far northwest of Peru . The district was established on January 11, 1985. In the 2017 census, 17,366 inhabitants lived on an area of 46.06 km². In 1993 the population was 7,977, in 2007 16,058. The administrative seat is the small town of Aguas Verdes with 2057 inhabitants (as of 2017). Aguas Verdes is located on the right bank of the Río Zarumilla at an altitude of 7 m , 4 km northeast of the provincial capital Zarumilla . The main town of Aguas Verdes is on the border with Ecuador . On the other side of the border is the city of Huaquillas . The Panamericana highway (in Peru the national road 1N) coming from Ecuador crosses the district.
Geographical location
The Aguas Verdes district is located in the northeast of the Zarumilla province. The river Río Zarumilla (new river course) crosses the district in a predominantly northwest direction. The old course of the Río Zarumilla runs along the state border with Ecuador in the north.
The Aguas Verdes district borders on the Zarumilla district to the west and north, the Huaquillas and Arenillas cantons of the Ecuadorian province of El Oro to the east and the Papayal district to the southwest .

La Curva forms the eastern part of the metropolitan area of Zarumilla and had 13,739 inhabitants in 2017.
