The Papayal District is located in the Zarumilla Province in the Tumbes region in the far northwest of Peru . The district was established on November 25, 1942. In the 2017 census, there were 6,274 inhabitants on an area of 193.53 km². In 1993 the population was 4603, in 2007 it was 4965. The administrative seat is the village Papayal , located in the east of the province at an altitude of 60 m , with 832 inhabitants (as of 2017). The national road 1N ( Panamericana ) crosses the north of the district.
Geographical location
The Papayal District is centrally located in the Zarumilla Province. The river Río Zarumilla runs along the eastern district boundary to the north. The district borders in the north on the district Zarumilla , in the northeast on the district Aguas Verdes , in the east on the canton Arenillas of the Ecuadorian province El Oro , in the south on the district Matapalo and in the west on the district Tumbes ( Tumbes province ).
