The Tumbes District is one of the 6 districts of the Tumbes Province in the Tumbes region in the far northwest of Peru . In the 2017 census, 102,306 inhabitants lived in an area of 158.84 km². In 1993 the population was 74,601, in 2007 95,124. The administrative seat is the city of Tumbes .
Geographical location
The Tumbes District is located in the northeast of the Tumbes Province on the Pacific Ocean . The Río Tumbes flows to the sea along the western district boundary. The district is bordered to the west by the Corrales district , to the south by the San Juan de la Virgen district and to the east by the Papayal district ( Zarumilla province ).
