The province of Tumbes is one of three provinces of the region of Tumbes on the Pacific coast of northern Peru . It has an area of 1800.85 km². In the 2017 census, the population was 154,962. In 1993 it was 115,406, in 2007 it was 142,338. The provincial capital is Tumbes .
Geographical location
The province of Tumbes borders the Pacific Ocean to the north, the province of Zarumilla to the east, the province of Contralmirante Villar to the west and the province of Talara ( Piura region ) and Ecuador to the south .
Administrative division
The province of Tumbes is divided into six districts ( Distritos ). The Tumbes district is the seat of the provincial administration.
