Dmitri Alexandrowitsch Wolkonski ( Russian : Дмитрий Александрович Волконский; born October 24, 1790 in Moscow , † July 13, 1838 in Vilna ) was a Russian prince and major general in the Imperial Russian Army .

Life

He received his initial military training in the St. Petersburg Page Corps . In 1807 he was a cadet in the Tambov Musketeer - Regiment adopted and 1810 for lieutenant promoted. In the same year he was deployed in Bulgaria during the Russo-Turkish War near Shumen and took part in the conquest of Bazardzhik and Nicopoly , and was honored for his bravery. In 1811 he was transferred to the Kostromer Infantry Regiment and in 1812 was part of the 1812 Russian campaign against Napoleon . He was used in the battles around Kobrin and the Beresina and was wounded in the left leg . Between 1813 and 1814 he was used in the battles near Bautzen , Thorne and Leipzig and received another wound on his right leg. He was promoted to staff captain in 1814 and was again in the war with Château-Thierry and ultimately in the conquest of Paris . In 1816 he was promoted to major and in 1820 to lieutenant colonel and served in the 10th Jäger Regiment. From 1821 he was given command of the Archangel Infantry Regiment and was promoted to colonel in 1824 . As its commander , he took part in the Russo-Turkish War from 1828 to 1829 and fought successfully in the siege of Silistra . In 1831 he took over the 1st Brigade of the 18th Infantry Division and was involved in the fight against the Polish uprising in 1830/31 . On June 25, 1833, he was promoted to major general. He died in Vilnius on July 13, 1838.

Origin and family

DA Volkonsky is a descendant of the ancient Russian rurikids and came from the noble family of the Volkonsky princes . His father was Alexander Sergeevich Volkonsky (1750-1811) from Moscow, his mother was the princess Anastasia Alexejewna Kolzowa-Masalskaja. His brothers were Alexander Alexandrovich (1784-1832), Nil Alexandrovich, officer (1787-1805), Yuri Alexandrovich, officer (* 1794), Mikhail Alexandrovich (1798-1877) and Nikolai Alexandrovich (* 1799). He was unmarried and had no offspring.
