The Dockwise BV is a company specializing in heavy goods by water. The company is based in Breda in the Netherlands .
history
The company was created in 1993 through the merger of Wijsmuller Transport and Dock Express Shipping. The new company was owned by the Norwegian Wilh group. Wilhelmsen and the Dutch Heerema Group.
In 2001 Dockwise merged with Offshore Heavy Transport ASA (OHT). With the Black Marlin and the Blue Marlin, OHT brought two ships into the company.
In 2006 it was decided to sell Dockwise to the British financial investor 3i . The sale was completed in January 2007.
In 2007 Dockwise merged with Sealift. The merger added six more ships to Dockwise's fleet, which Sealift brought into the company. This was to Suezmax - tankers , which on semi-submersible vessels have been converted. The ships form the T-Class: Transporter , Target , Treasure , Talisman , Trustee and Triumph .
In 2012 Dockwise took over the Dutch company Fairstar Heavy Transport.
In 2013, Dockwise was taken over by Royal Boskalis Westminster .
Use of the ships
Dockwise's clients are primarily the oil and gas industry as well as heavy lift companies. For example, conveyor platforms, voluminous and heavy loads, but also entire ships (e.g. military ships or luxury yachts) are transported.
Dockwise ships are also used to transport zeppelins. The Dock Express 10 transported a Zeppelin NT from Gioia Tauro to Japan at the turn of the year 2004/2005 .
In August 2005 the Enterprise transported a Zeppelin NT for De Beers from Amsterdam to South Africa, which was to be used there as part of the “Diamonds for Development” project.
In connection with the wrecked Costa Concordia, it was initially planned to ship the cruise ship to a dock for scrapping with the Dockwise Vanguard , which had been in service only a few months earlier . However, the plan was later discarded.
fleet
Dockwise operates a fleet of 18 dock ships in the variants "Open deck", "Dock type" and "Yacht carrier". Depending on the type, the ships are permanently assigned certain transport tasks: eleven ships for oil rigs , three for industrial goods and three for luxury yachts or barges . Since February 2013, the new Dockwise Vanguard , the world's largest heavy-lift ship with a length of 275 meters, a width of 70 meters and a diving depth of 16 meters, has also been part of the fleet.
The ships sail partly under the flag of the Netherlands Antilles , partly under the flag of Malta .
