Dolgowitz ( Upper Sorbian ) is a district of the Saxon town of Löbau in the district of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia . The place is located northeast of the Löbauer urban area and belonged to the municipality of Rosenhain until 1994 .
history
Dolgowitz is a settlement of Slavic origin and was in 1241 the first time in a Field inspection certificate in connection with a located at the nearby Rotstein Wallenburg mentioned in documents as "Dolgawiz". This fortification, which already existed as castellum ostrusna in 1007 , was then declared as the area of the Bishop of Meissen. The place itself is a square village and was subject to the manor of the manor Unworthiness until 1945 . Dolgowitz is parish after Bischdorf . The place name changed via Dolgewicz (1401), Dulgewicz (1434) and Dollgewicz (1568) to the form common today. Traditionally, the residents lived from smallholder agriculture or were employed as servants and maidservants of the manor.
Sorbian was also spoken in Dolgowitz until the 18th century . Since the residents of Dolgowitz and Rosenhain in particular spoke hardly any German in the second third of the 16th century, the service in the parish of Bischdorf was also held in Sorbian, at least on high feast days.
In 1974 Dolgowitz was incorporated into Rosenhain and on March 1, 1994 came to Löbau together with the latter. The place is of touristic importance as a starting point for hikes to the nearby Rotstein , the oldest nature reserve in Saxony. A mountain restaurant with an observation tower that was inaugurated on October 28, 2000 has been located on the 455 meter high summit since the 19th century. In addition, the remains of a rampart castle and moat can be seen here, the research of which was made by the Upper Lusatian historian and local researcher Gustav Hermann Schulze .
In Dolgowitz and neighboring Bischdorf, large parts of the exterior shots for the DEFA film " Der Ochse von Kulm " were made in 1954/55 . With 4.1 million viewers, the strip was one of the most watched DEFA films ever.
