Dolmen de la Grosse Pierre

The Dolmen de la Grosse Pierre is located on the “Le Bourg” road, in the east of Verneusses in the extreme southwest of the Eure department in Normandy in France . The road is the old Roman road between Rouen and Alençon . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

Half of the 0.6 m thick capstone consists of breccia and sandstone . It is triangular, the north side is about 4.0 m long, the other two sides are 3.5 m. It is supported by four bearing stones.

Stone A: made of sandstone is 2.3 m wide, has a visible height of 0.7 m and is 0.45 m thick.

Stone B: is made of sandstone.

Stone C: made of breccia is about 2.0 m wide, has a visible height of 1.25 m and a thickness of 1.0 m.

Stone D: sandstone, is 1.30 m wide, has a visible height of 0.90 m and a thickness of 0.70 m.

A fifth carrier E was added in 1910 by Leon Ticking, who restored the dolmen.
