from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dolores Helena Wintersberger-Wyss (born February 6, 1946 in Zurich ; † October 6, 2005 in Walbourg ) was a French-Swiss artist .

Life

Dolores Wintersberger-Wyss was born as the first child of the Swiss engineer Walter Wyss and Dora Ida Ernst, a tailor for haute couture. She spent part of her youth in Catholic boarding schools in Lucerne and western Switzerland. She had a brother and two sisters.

After finishing school, she moved to Lucerne and became the friend of the graphic designer and artist Joseph Ebinger , with whom she remained closely connected throughout her life. She started working as an artist and photographer. In Lucerne she met Joseph Beuys , where she began a six-semester course at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1968 as a master class student . In Düsseldorf she met Mario Merz , with whom she had a long-term relationship. She lived with the sculptor Inge Mahn on Kirchstrasse in Düsseldorf.

After graduating, she received a scholarship from the city of Zurich to work in a studio in Ticino. At her exhibition at Max Hetzler's in Stuttgart, she met the painter Lambert Maria Wintersberger in 1981 , whom she married in 1986.

Her areas of work were photography, video art, performances, painting and texts. She made action art and was part of the Fluxus movement. For them, life and art were one. Her work was strongly influenced by Pop Art. Flying was an important topic for her. The feather motif ran through all media with which she worked. But also the music - above all the opera - inspired Dolores Wintersberger-Wyss for artistic engagement. This included the parody of Salome and the installation with a pink neon tube and violin, which the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart bought. "Your work is remarkably independent from the start."
