Domenico Puccini studied with Padre Stanislao Mattei in Bologna and later in Naples with Giovanni Paisiello . After his return to Lucca he became, like his father and grandfather, organist at the Cathedral of San Martino . Duchess Elsia Bonaparte Baciocchi appointed him Cappella Municipale . In 1805 he married Angela Cerù. Puccini died in 1815 at the age of 43.

Puccini's work includes instrumental music a. a. a piano concerto in B flat major , two symphonies and several dozen piano sonatas. He wrote six duets for soprano and tenor with piano accompaniment. His main works include four operas and church music. So he wrote five Kyrie, six Gloriae, one Benedictus, one Alleluia for eight voices and orchestra, three lamentations, six motets and eight psalms in sacred music.

After the small chamber operas Spartaco (1793) and Castruccio (1797), he wrote his pastoral opera Le frecce d'amore and the opera buffa L'Ortolanella, o la Moglie capricciosa in 1800 . In the same year Puccini wrote a Te Deum on the occasion of the alleged victory over Napoleon in the Battle of Marengo , which he performed in June 1800 in San Martino. Puccini composed another homage for Napoleon in 1807 for soprano and piano four hands. The opera seria Il Quinto Fabio followed in 1810, and in 1813 the Farsa La Scuola dei tutori . The opera buffa Il Ciarlatano, ossia I finti savoiardi fell in the year of his death in 1815. His last work, a Te Deum, he left unfinished. His father, Antonio Puccini , did not dare to complete the work, as he wrote in a note on the score. It then gave it to Felice Ravani, a pupil of Domenico, for completion.
