Domingos Alexandre Rodrigo Dias da Costa (born June 17, 1982 in Niterói ), Alex or Alex Costa for short , is a former Brazilian soccer player .

Career

societies

The central defender began his career in the men's field at Brazilian club Santos , for whom he made his debut in 2002. Two years later, a scout from Chelsea FC spotted him and recommended him to José Mourinho , the head coach of the London club, who eventually signed Alex.

However, since he did not meet the criteria for engagement in England (he had not played 75% of Brazil's internationals in the last two years, which the rules say), he was loaned out to Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven . With PSV he won two championship titles in a row and the cup in 2005. The loan period actually expired in summer 2006, but FC Chelsea signed the Dutchman Khalid Boulahrouz from Hamburger SV and left Alex with PSV for another year. Here he won his third championship title in a row and said goodbye to England after 84 games and eleven goals for PSV. In the meantime he had got a work permit and was now allowed to play for Chelsea. He also benefited from the fact that Boulahrouz had not convinced, was loaned to FC Sevilla in the summer of 2007 and then went to VfB Stuttgart .

In January 2012, Alex moved to Paris Saint-Germain ; During the summer break of 2014, he joined AC Milan .

He ended his career in December 2016.

National team

After eight international appearances and two goals scored for the Brazilian U-23 team, Alex made his debut on July 13, 2003 as part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in the 1-0 defeat in the first group game against Mexico in the Seleção . He lost the final against Mexico.

Alex took part in the Copa America 2007 and played all six (possible) games of the tournament , including the 3-0 final win against Argentina .

Because of strong competition in the person of Lúcio and Júan , he was not included in the national team, such as in the clubs. He has not been nominated since 2008.
