Dominick Geoffrey Edward Browne, 4th Baron Oranmore and Browne, 2nd Baron Mereworth (born October 21, 1901 in Dublin , United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , † August 7, 2002 ) was a British-Irish nobleman and a politician of the Conservative Party . Life

He was the eldest son of Geoffrey Henry Browne, 3rd Baron Oranmore and Browne , and Lady Olwen Verena Ponsonby, daughter of Edward Ponsonby, 8th Earl of Bessborough . He was educated at Eton College and Christ Church , Oxford before joining the Grenadier Guards .

In 1927 he followed his father, who was killed in a car accident in Southborough , Kent , to the seat in the House of Lords as 2nd Baron Mereworth in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . The older title of 4th Baron Oranmore and Browne in the Peerage of Ireland was not associated with a seat in the House of Lords. Lord Oranmore and Browne sat in the House of Lords for 72 years, longer than any other peer, and never delivered a speech in Parliament during that long period.

In 1930 the family's English residence, Mereworth Castle , was sold and Lord Oranmore and Browne moved to his Irish seat. At Castle MacGarrett in County Mayo, with an area of ​​12 km² and 150 employees, the Lord had the opportunity to breed racehorses. Lord Oranmore and Browne was also an active pilot .

In the early 1950s, the castle was taken over by the Irish Land Commission and converted into a nursing home. From then on he lived in London .

Marriages and offspring

He was married three times. His first marriage was Mildred Helen Egerton in 1925, daughter of the Hon. Thomas Henry Frederick Egerton of the Earls of Ellesmere and Lady Bertha Anson of the Earls of Lichfield . The marriage, which ended in divorce in 1936, produced five children:
