Dominik Auliczek (born August 1, 1734 in Polička , † April 15, 1804 in Nymphenburg , today in Munich ) was a sculptor of Bohemian origin. He was inspector of the Nymphenburg porcelain factory , court sculptor and created statues for the Nymphenburg Park .

Life

Auliczek learned sculpture from Franz Patzak in Litomyšl . He received his further training in Vienna from Johann Georg Leitner . He then traveled to Paris (1754) and London (1755/56). This was followed by a six-year stay at the Papal Academy of Arts in Rome. Here Auliczek made the acquaintance of the architect Gaetano Chiaveri . Pope Clement XIII. honored him with the artist's order of the golden spur .

In 1762 Auliczek settled in Munich. In 1765 he succeeded Franz Anton Bustelli as master model in the Nymphenburg porcelain factory. In 1773 he became inspector of the manufactory and remained so until 1797. As early as 1772 he had the title of court sculptor under Max III. Joseph . In 1787 he became a court chamberlain.

Auliczek's artistic work focused on the design of mythological figures, plastic depictions of animals and portrait medallions in porcelain . In addition to his work as chief boss in the manufactory, his garden sculptures in Nymphenburg Park became known, for example the figures of Proserpina with scepter and the owl Askalaphos and that of her husband Pluto with the three-headed hellhound Cerberus , as well as the statues of Juno with a Peacock and Jupiter with an eagle sitting on a rock, both from 1791/92. They belong to the part of the picture program of the Nymphenburg Park created by Roman Anton Boos and Giovanni Marchiori .
