Don't Ever Leave Me is a song from the 1929 Broadway musical Sweet Adeline . It was composed by Jerome Kern. The lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein . The song was sung for the first time in 1929 by Helen Morgan and Robert Chisholm. Since its debut, the song has been performed by numerous artists of various musical styles and has found acceptance in the Great American Songbook .

Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein worked together from 1924. The musicals you have created together include Sunny (1925), Show Boat (1927), Sweet Adeline (1929) and Music in the Air (1932). Show Boat was their greatest mutual artistic success.

The musical Sweet Adeline , from which the song Don't Ever Leave Me comes from , was also successful . The musical premiered on September 3, 1929 in Hammerstein's Theater and saw 234 performances there until March 22, 1930.
