Jody Sandhouse

Jody Sandhaus (born April 29, 1951 in Houston , Texas , † July 17, 2012 in New York City ) was an American jazz singer .

Sandhaus grew up in New York and studied classical piano playing. After graduating from high school, she moved to Cleveland , where she studied the Seven Liberal Arts at Case Western Reserve University . After completing her studies, she lived for a while in St. Maarten in the Caribbean, where she studied vocal jazz and traditional pop before the rock era. In the 1980s she returned to New York City, took classes with Marie Traficante and performed on the local jazz scene.

Sandhaus worked with jazz pianist Pete Malinverni , whom she eventually married. In 1997 she presented her debut album Winter Moon on the Saranac label , on which Rufus Reid also participated. In 2000 I Think of You (Consolidated Artists Productions) followed. a. was accompanied by bassist Michael Moore . Two more albums followed. She died in July 2012 of complications from cancer.
