Don J. Bassman

Don J. Bassman (born April 2, 1927 , † January 24, 1993 in Hollywood Hills , California ) was an American sound engineer and engineer who won both an Oscar for best sound and an Emmy .

Life

Bassman began his career as a sound engineer in the Hollywood film industry in 1962 on television series such as Mr. Ed and The Addams Family and worked on the production of 65 films and television series by 1990.

Together with Douglas O. Williams , he won the Academy Awards in 1971 for best tone in the film Patton: Rebel in Uniform (1970) and was also with Williams and Don Hall for the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Film Award) for the nominated for best sound . In 1976 he received an Emmy with Donald F. Johnson for Best Sound in Eleanor and Franklin (1976), an ABC- produced television film about US President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt .

Another nomination for an Oscar in this category followed in 1989 with Kevin F. Cleary , Richard Overton and Al Overton Jr. for the film Die Hard (1988). He received another Oscar nomination for best tone at the 1990 Academy Awards with Cleary, Overton and Lee Orloff for Abyss (1989). For the Hunt for Red October (1990) he was nominated again for the Oscar for Best Sound in 1991 with Richard Bryce Goodman , Overton and Cleary and for another BAFTA Film Award with Cecilia Hall , George Watters II and Goodman.
