Donatello Dubini

Donatello Dubini (born July 19, 1955 in Zurich ; † March 26, 2011 in Cologne ) was a Swiss director and documentary filmmaker . He made his films in close collaboration with his brother Fosco Dubini .

From 1975 to 1977 he studied at the Film Academy in Vienna, and from 1979 film studies at the University of Cologne . He wrote his master's thesis on the documentary filmmaker Richard Dindo .

He made his first documentary film Gösgen - A film about the popular movement against nuclear power plants about the Gösgen nuclear power plant in 1978 together with his brother. This was followed by documentaries about the missing Italian physicist Ettore Majorana , the nuclear spy Klaus Fuchs and the Bavarian fairytale king Ludwig II.

With later works, the Dubini brothers turned increasingly to film and art topics. This is how documentaries were made about the actress Jean Seberg , the writer Thomas Pynchon and the actress Hedy Lamarr .

In 2001, both filmed Annemarie Schwarzenbach's travel diary under the title Die Reise nach Kafiristan .

Shortly before his death, he presented his last film, The Big Legacy , which was dedicated to the personal history of the Dubini family, at the 46th Solothurn Film Festival .

Dubini was a founding member of the Kölner Filmhaus and a member of the filmmaker and distribution initiative “Der Andere Blick”.
