action

Dora Brandes is a celebrated actress. Since the journalist Gustave Calvi, a man with political ambitions, became her lover, she has stepped back more and more in her life as an artist and dedicated herself completely to the commitment to his career. Dora receives the cash injection urgently needed for Calvis' political career from a former lover. With Dora's help, Calvi actually manages one day to become a member of parliament. Now that he has reached the preliminary goal of his dreams, Calvi, after learning of his former lover, lets go of her and leaves Dora Brandes alone.

Shocked by the betrayal of loyalty and love, Dora begins to drink and experiences a continuous social decline. After a few years, Calvi sees the possibility of even becoming a minister. But his enemies have long been planning his overthrow. Then Dora Brandes returns to Calvi's life and provides him with the documents he needs to secure his ascent. Since Dora is no longer an adequate or acceptable partner for Calvi due to her "past" - her alcoholism and the associated social decline - Dora decides to commit suicide and goes into the water.

Reviews

In film.at it says: “All facets of the game of passion that Nielsen developed in the early 1910s are gathered here again - one could almost say for the last time. Both the form of social drama and the freedom of the actress are lost with Weimar Autorenkino. In this film, Nielsen begins her story as a glamorous diva, who puts life and love above art, and for that very reason ends as a poor, disappointed, but still self-confident woman. "

In Paimann's film lists you can read: "Very dramatic material. Photos and game great".
