In Dorchester, Allamakee County Road 16 meets Iowa Highway 76 .
The Minnesota border is 2.8 miles north. The Mississippi, which forms the border with Wisconsin , flows 17 miles east of Dorchester. Neighboring towns are Eitzen in Minnesota (8.8 km northeast), Bee in Minnesota (8 km northwest) and New Albin (25 km east).

history
Although Dorchester is not a self-governing parish, it has had a post office since May 21, 1857.
In August 2007 the place was destroyed by a flood. The record flood in June 2008 led to the almost complete destruction of a trailer park that made up a large part of the town.
