The Dorchester Bay is the smallest of the three bays in the southern Boston Harbor and part of Massachusetts Bay in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . The bay forms the southern part of the coastline of the Boston borough of South Boston , the northeastern coastline of Dorchester and the northern coastline of the city of Quincy .
In the bay is Thompson Island , one of the port islands in Boston Harbor. The Neponset River flows into Dorchester Bay between Dorchester and Squantum Point Park in Quincy. On the west coast of the bay at the end of the Columbia Point peninsula is the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum . The north coast runs 2.6 mi (4 km ) along Day Boulevard , one of the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's parkways and part of the Metropolitan Park System of Greater Boston .
