History and architecture

The church patronage of Ankershagen was mentioned as belonging to the Broda monastery in a document dated April 24, 1230. The field stone church in Romanesque style is carefully executed, the moldings are made of brick , the field stones are squared. The consecration took place in 1266 by the Bishop of Havelberg, the oldest part of the building is the almost square, recessed choir . Here a domical vault rests on low corner services . The nave is equipped with blind gables . In the nave, cross vaults that rest on square pillars span the interior. A triumphal arch separates the choir and nave. The choir serves as a winter church in the appropriate season. Two massive pillars are attached to the choir and the ship. Striking windows and portals in brick walls structure the walls. The high, ogival windows are mostly diamond-shaped lead glazed. The sound openings of the transversely rectangular west tower with eight-sided truss are boarded up. The curved hood dates from the second half of the 18th century. The small brick extension to the choir has brick panels in the gable and corner turrets on both sides.

  • The altar is designed in a neo-Gothic style.
  • The pulpit and the altar are neo-Gothic.

On the eastern wall of the nave there is a depiction of St. Georg from the 15th century, this painting was uncovered from 1989 to 1991.
