Brohm village church

The Brohm village church is an early Gothic stone church with baroque furnishings in the Brohm district of Friedland in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the Evangelical parish Schönbeck-Kublank in the Neustrelitz provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church) .

History and architecture

Southwest view

The church in Brohm is a hall building with a retracted rectangular choir in carefully executed field stone masonry from the late 13th century. On the east gable of the choir there is a gable with blinds in brick masonry. A barrel-vaulted sacristy is added to the north of the choir. The building is accessed through a pointed arched step portal in the west and in the south. At the choir there is a smaller priest gate on the south side. The portals in the south are provided with profiled fighters and incised drawings.

South side, western portal

The choir east wall is provided with a group of three windows in a panel. The remaining windows were probably enlarged in the 15th century. Although the pointed arches on the portals and windows and the time of origin suggest the stylistic assignment of the building to the Gothic, this is only to be viewed as a rough categorization of such rural-archaic buildings.

Priest gate at the choir

In 1716 the church was provided with a half-timbered roof tower with a tent roof, which was reduced to the bell chamber in 1949. Inside, the building was also redesigned in the Baroque style around 1716 . A stuccoed mirror vault with banded decoration and allegorical figures as well as a ceiling picture with angels and the eye of God above an illusionistically painted balustrade was installed in the choir , while the nave was provided with a wooden barrel vault with a representation of the Ascension of Christ .

Furnishing

The uniformly baroque furnishings also date from around 1716. Mention should be made of an altarpiece with paintings, an altar barrier , the pulpit, the former patron's box , a pastor's chair, the stalls and the western gallery with organ prospect . A cast iron baptismal font was added around 1840. It replaced the medieval baptismal font, whose cup with shaft now stands in the churchyard. Next is a depiction of the risen Christ as a carved figure from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century.

The liturgical equipment consists of two silver-gilt goblets and paten as well as a lidded jug and a box from the 18th century. A bell was cast in 1728 by Michael Begun from Friedland. Two grave slabs belonging to the von Rieben family owners from 1746 and 1748 should be mentioned.
