Broock village church

The Broock village church is a branch church of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Barkow-Broock , which has been connected to the neighboring parish of Plau am See in the parish of Parchim in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany ( Northern Church ) since 2005 . It combines stylistic features of the Romanesque , Gothic and Renaissance styles .

history

The village Broock was first mentioned in 1235 as Brůk . At that time it belonged to the Kuppentiner parish. Probably only a little later - Schlie suspects 1252 - the village and church came as a branch to the parish village of Barkow, 5 km to the east.

Building description

The choir of the village church is made of brick on a granite foundation. The layout of the whole still points to the Romanesque, even if the building was built later (15th century), probably as a replacement for a building from the second quarter of the 13th century. On the gable, echoes of Renaissance designs can already be seen.

The nave, built in field stone from the middle of the 13th century, is characterized by early Gothic forms. Like the choir, it is provided with a flat beamed ceiling (18th century), but still shows signs of a vaulting that once existed . The windows are obviously assigned to different time phases. The south portal, which is hidden from the outside by the wooden tower built in front of it, shows a set, early Gothic round bar profile . Apart from the building material, the size of the choir and nave do not differ from one another on the outside. A porch built in the west in the 20th century was removed a few years ago.

As an unusual feature, the tower of the church has been added directly in front of the southern entrance to the nave and thus also forms an entrance hall. The wooden tower with a gable roof is so low that it does not protrude above the ridge of the nave. The only bell with a diameter of 95.6 cm, a height without the crown of 75.5 cm and a weight of around 500 kg is a bronze cast by the meckl. Court bell founder Peter Martin Hausbrandt in Wismar from 1855. There are inscriptions in capital letters : "SOLI DEO GLORIA", "FRIEDRICH FRANZ II / GRAND DUKE OF MECKLENBURG.", "REGOSSEN 1855." and "P. M. HAUSBRANDT HOFGLOCKENGIESSER IN WISMAR. “There is no description of the previous medieval bell that existed until then.

Furnishing

The rich ornamental painting of the wooden ceiling dates SCHLIE to the second or third decade of the 18th century. The altar is plain.

The parapet organ (five registers , a manual and an attached pedal ) with a flat prospectus is a work by Friedrich Friese III from 1887. Reconditioned and changed disposition in 1972 by organ builder Wolfgang Nußbücker from Plau. 2012 Restoration of the preserved work and reconstruction of the disposition by Andreas Arnold Mecklenburger Orgelbau from Plau. With the construction of many new pipes , the Arnold company succeeded in restoring the Frisian sound.

The wooden sacrificial box bears the inscription: KLAVS ENGELCKE ANNO 1692 .

local community

The village of Broock has been part of the parish of the village of Barkow about 5 km to the east since the 13th century . Since 2005 the parish of Barkow-Broock, to which the villages Altenlinden, Kolonie Lalchow, Kritzow and Wessentin belong, and the parish of St. Marien Plau am See have been affiliated parishes with a common pastor but their own parish councils.

Since 2010 Broock has been a sponsoring association, Dorfkirche Broock e. V. active, who is committed to the gradual renovation of the church. A major construction phase with a roof and facade was completed in 2014.
