The Protestant village church Garwitz is a Gothic brick church in the Garwitz district of the Lewitzrand community in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the Garwitz parish in the Parchim provost of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church) .

History and architecture

The Garwitz village church is a flat-roofed hall made of field and brick masonry from the 15th century. Buttresses and approaches from shield arches suggest an intended vault with two yokes. The pointed arch windows and the portals show stepped walls . The choir has a slightly irregular three-sided finish. The bells are hung in a belfry northwest of the church, which was restored in 1996.

Furnishing

The main piece of equipment is an artistically valuable carved altar from the end of the 15th century, which was taken over from the town church of Crivitz in the 19th century . In the center there is a richly figured representation of the crucifixion, flanked by John the Evangelist and St. George . In the wings the apostles and four female saints are depicted. The canopies and the veil are particularly finely crafted.

On the parapet of the organ gallery there are figures of the eleven apostles and Anna Selbdritt , St. Catherine and a bishop from a former altar shrine from the second half of the 15th century.

A chandelier from 1714 comes from the church in Domsühl .

The large bronze bell from 1453 shows a foundry mark like the bells in Schwerin Cathedral and Damshagen Church . The smaller bell was re-cast in 1954 from the material of a cracked bell cast in 1505. The organ is a work by Johann Heinrich Runge from 1854 with five stops on one manual. The pedal (C – a 0 ) is attached.
