Hohenstein village church

The Protestant village church Hohenstein is a field stone church in Hohenstein , a district of the city of Strausberg in the district of Märkisch-Oderland in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of Oderland-Spree of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The village road runs through the town in a west-east direction. In the historic center, Garziner Straße branches off to the south. The church stands southwest of this connection on a piece of land at the northern end of the village green , which is enclosed with a wall made of uncut and not layered field stones .

history

The sacred building was built in the second half of the 13th century. During the Baroque period , the windows on the nave were enlarged. Further renovations took place in the 19th century.

Building description

The builders mainly used field stones that were largely carefully hewn and layered in layers. For repair and renovation work - mostly in the 19th century - yellowish bricks in different colors were used. The choir is straight and slightly drawn in. It has a rectangular floor plan with a width of 8.2 m and a length of 7.8 m. On its east side there are three lancet windows that probably date from the construction period. There is a rectangular opening in the gable in the southern area. In the northern area, extensive repair work can be seen, which indicates damage at a later point in time. These extend to the north side of the choir. Here are two large arched windows, the reveal of which was framed with masonry stones. They are likely to have been significantly smaller at the time of construction and were enlarged at a later date. In the 21st century, the lower third is clogged with uncut field stones and rock fragments. At the transition to the roof ridge , several layers of light-colored bricks are built, which indicate an increase in the wall crown . On the south side there are also two large arched windows that are blocked in the lower area. To the west of it is a priest's gate, which is also clogged and which may have come from the construction period. The wall crown was also raised on the south side of the choir.

The nave has a rectangular floor plan and is 12.4 m long and 10.5 m wide. The east wall is built from field stones, as is the gable. On the north side there are two large, “baroque” arched windows that extend almost the entire height of the long wall. To the west is a clogged arched window, which is likely from the construction period. The middle window was apparently built over a gate that was also closed. Repair work was carried out with masonry stones there and on the window to the east. A similar picture emerges on the south side. Here, too, there are two arched windows and an additional window on the west side. Originally, the sacred building should have had two by three windows on its long sides. The middle window conceals a clogged community gate in the lower area.

In the middle of the west wall of the towerless ship is a round arched door with a plastered reveal. The gable was built of stone; in the middle there are three arched sound arcades . There are two buttresses on each side . The simple saddle roofs of the nave and choir are covered with beaver tail .

Furnishing

View into the nave

The altarpiece was created in the middle of the 18th century and consists essentially of a crucifix that was created in the first half of the 16th century. A chalice and a copper monstrance have survived from 1542 . In 1600 there was a paten, two candlesticks, a chasuble and a missal . The inside of the building is flat-roofed, the triumphal arch is ogival with profiled fighters . The wooden ceiling is decorated with baroque ornaments.
