The Ruhlsdorfer Bruch nature reserve extends south of the village and is drained from the Lichtenower Mühlenfließ to the Löcknitz . North of the Garziner Haussee are the ruins of the Hohensteiner Mühle on the Mühlenfließ. The former water mill was probably built in the 19th and 20th centuries. Century built.

The federal highway 168 runs between Müncheberg and Prötzel around 4.5 kilometers east of Hohenstein . The B 1 and B 5 can also be reached via Müncheberg .

history

The Angerdorf was first mentioned in 1375 in the land book of Charles IV as Hogensteyn / Hhoensten . Since there is neither a castle nor a rock near the village, according to the Brandenburg name book, there could be a name transfer by the noble von Hohnstein family , who were wealthy in the Uckermark , but not documented in Brandenburg.

According to the land register, the village had 62 hooves in 1375 , four of which were used to supply the parish and one to maintain the church. At that time the village belonged with all rights to the knight family von Krummensee , who sat in the village of Krummensee near Altlandsberg in the eastern part of the Barnims.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Wuhlsdorf was incorporated.

On December 6, 1993 Hohenstein was incorporated into the city of Strausberg.

Attractions

Village church

The village church Hohenstein - the only monument in town - at the northern end of the village green is a field stone building from the 13th century. The building surrounded by the cemetery is a square choir , so it consists of a rectangular nave and recessed choir with a straight east end. The church does not have a tower or roof turret . Inside the church is flat covered. In contrast to the round-arched windows and portals, the triumphal arch has a pointed arch .

Boulder

In 2011 a very large boulder was excavated during the construction of the OPAL pipeline between Hohenstein and Gladowshöhe . Its weight is around 24  tons , its volume around 9.2  cubic meters . The stone stands at the end of the village in the direction of Ruhlsdorf, but will probably be placed at its place of discovery after the clarification of the ownership situation, which is currently pending in the court. The analyzes of its age, the type of rock and the Scandinavian place of origin have not yet been completed. A procedure for recognition as a ground monument has been initiated. (As of August 2012.)
