Village church Neuendorf im Sande

The Protestant village church Neuendorf im Sande is a field stone church in Neuendorf im Sande , a district of the Steinhöfel community in the Oder-Spree district in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of Oderland-Spree of the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The old village road leads from the north to the historic village center. There it continues in a southerly direction and spans the village green with the herb path to the east . On this area the church stands on a plot of land with a surrounding church cemetery , which is enclosed with a wall made of uncut and not layered field stones .

history

The sacred building in Neuendorf, which was first mentioned in a document in 1285, was built in the second half of the 13th century. Around 1870/1880 it was "high-quality remodeled" in the arched style, as the Dehio manual notes. The church furnishings were also replaced. In 1938 the parish had to take the decision to shorten the church tower “in love and loyalty to its fatherland”. This enabled aircraft to use the approach path to Fürstenwalde Airport more safely .

Building description

The original structure was built from field stones that were largely carefully hewn and mostly layered in layers. The overforming was mostly done with reddish brick , which creates a strong contrast to the dark stones. The work described as high quality is shown, for example, in the rectangular choir . On its east wall is a group of three windows , the lower reveal of which is likely to date from the time the church was built. In the upper area at the transition to the gable , round arches made of masonry stone were added, which probably replaced the originally pointed arch shape. To the left and right of the middle window, repair work can be seen that was carried out in field stones. The gable was built from brick. In the middle is a large ox-eye with four quatrefoils , above it a brick cross. Next to the window is a small arched window.

The nave has a rectangular floor plan. On the north side there are five large arched windows that are evenly distributed over the facade. The framing was done with reddish brick. In turn, tracery with an overhead quatrefoil is built into each window . Some repair work can be seen between the windows. It is conceivable that three or four ogival windows were originally built into the ship. Four windows are installed on the south side. In the middle is a small vestibule. It has a rectangular floor plan and an arched gate on its south side. Above the vestibule is another ox-eye with four quadrupeds. On this side, too, the lower layers are carefully layered and should therefore come from the construction period. Repair work from field stones can be seen above. At the transition to the simple saddle roof is a surrounding frieze made of reddish brick. There is a chessboard piece each at the southeast and northeast corner .

The west tower has a square floor plan and is strongly drawn in opposite the ship. On its west side is a magnificent, four-stepped wall made of masonry, which borders a round arched gate. The lower part of the structure was built from carefully layered field stones. The upper storey is separated by a surrounding brick frieze. Above it rises a simple, gray plastered structure with an upright rectangular opening to the west. On the bell floor there are four simple and circular sound arcades , above them a flat pyramid roof with a cross.

Furnishing

The church furnishings all date from the 19th century, including the pews. In the west gallery is an organ that Wilhelm Sauer built around 1875.

The inside of the structure is flat covered.
