Doris Schamp

Doris Schamp (* 1983 in Oberpullendorf ) is an Austrian designer and cartoonist who publishes and exhibits her cartoons under the artist name “La Razzia”. She is known for her human-like bird figures.

Career and artistic work

Schamp studied product and furniture design at the New Design University St. Pölten and art education with Barbara Putz-Plecko and James Skone at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. During her semester abroad for animation and animation 2010/2011 at the HSLU in Lucerne , she developed a promotional animation for Cartoon Network . She completed her studies with two master’s degrees and has since worked as an artist in various disciplines from animation to sculpture and also took on commissioned work for companies such as Red Bull and Rado . Her cartoons are mostly short animations on the subject of gender or so-called “idents” (animation ends in the logo).

In 2012 Doris Schamp took part in the Caricatura VI. in Kassel , which takes place parallel to the Documenta . At the show with over 100 European artists, Doris Schamp was represented alongside prominent cartoonists such as Peter Gaymann and Franziska Becker with the picture "Love is blind". The exhibition entitled Die Komische Kunst - analog, digital, international was taken over by the Caricatura Museum Frankfurt . The official exhibition catalog contains essays by Andreas Platthaus ( FAZ ) and Leo Fischer ( Titanic ) as well as short biographies of the participating artists.

In 2013 Doris Schamp won the 7th International Cartoon Competition in Aachen. In the same year, the Galerie der Komische Künste in the MuseumsQuartier Wien held her solo exhibition Defiant Phase - Cartoons by La Razzia , in which 50 original cartoons by Doris Schamp were shown. A cartoon volume of the same name was published for the exhibition.
