history

The place was first mentioned in 936 as Dornincum . It was part of the neighboring municipality of Ancy-sur-Moselle from 1810 to 1869 and then formed an independent municipality in the canton of Gorze. 1915-1918 and 1940-1944 he carried the Germanized name Dorningen . In the 19th century, the residents of Dornot - because of the small area - did not live from agriculture, but from viticulture and later also from work in the ironworks of the neighboring communities. For 1802 254 inhabitants in 63 houses are given, in 1871 there were still 216 inhabitants in 64 houses. After that there were seldom more than 200 inhabitants. In November 2015, the residents voted to merge with the municipality of Ancy-sur-Moselle, which came into effect on January 1, 2016.

With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Ancy-sur-Moselle and Dornot were merged into a Commune nouvelle with the name Ancy-Dornot. The municipality of Dornot belonged to the arrondissement of Metz and the canton of Les Coteaux de Moselle .
