Dorothee Dubrau

Dorothee Dubrau (born January 27, 1955 in Berlin ) is a German architect , professor and local politician in the field of urban development , construction and housing . She gained nationwide fame in the 1990s as a militant district councilor for urban development, building and living in the Berlin-Mitte district . In the urban development of the new center she represented and defended the gentle development and the consideration of the existing in new planning. She was a staunch opponent of clear-cutting and new construction without the integration of historically existing buildings.

Live and act

Dorothee Dubrau grew up as the daughter of a doctor and a physicist in Berlin. From 1961 she attended the Polytechnische Oberschule in East Berlin, in 1973 she finished her school years with the Abitur. She then studied architecture and urban planning at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art , which she left in 1978 with a degree in architecture.

From 1978 to 1980 she worked as an architect at HAG Complex Housing Berlin, construction management Berlin-Marzahn . In 1980 she moved to the urban planning office as an urban planner, where she was responsible for projects in inner-city housing and urban redevelopment . Between 1988 and 1990 she was involved in the Luisenstadt citizens' initiative and was its spokesperson.

In 1990 she was elected as a district councilor for construction and housing in the Berlin-Mitte district office. From 1996 to 2000 she was district councilor for building, housing and the environment in the Prenzlauer Berg district office . Between 2001 and 2006 she headed the Office for Urban Development in the newly created Mitte district of Berlin .

In November 2006 Dorothee Dubrau left Berlin's local politics and started her own business as an architect and urban planner.

From March 2006 to August 2016 she was a lecturer for urban development and regional planning at the TU Darmstadt . From 2008 to 2013 she was a visiting professor at the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

In July 2013 she was appointed mayor for urban development and construction of the city of Leipzig .

Trivia

Dorothee Dubrau is married and the mother of four children, born between 1978 and 1987. She is a lover of unusual hats and headgear.
