Doug Lawrence (saxophonist)
Doug Lawrence (born October 11, 1956 in Lake Charles ) is an American jazz musician.
Lawrence has been a saxophonist since the early 1970s and has worked with a number of well-known artists, such as Tony Bennett , Aretha Franklin , Nancy Wilson , Benny Goodman , Ray Charles , Rosemary Clooney , Sarah Vaughan , Buck Clayton , Ella Fitzgerald , Roy Eldridge , Benny Carter , Bobby Short and Loren Schoenberg . Occasionally he led his own groups. Since 1997 he has played tenor saxophone in the Count Basie Orchestra ( Ghost Band ), with which he also toured the world. Between 2009 and 2012 he also appeared as a soloist on the Broadway show ComeFlyAway . In the field of jazz he was involved in 31 recording sessions between 1972 and 2013.
