Doug Stienstra (born June 18, 1976 in Kelowna , British Columbia , Canada ) is a former Dutch - Canadian ice hockey player who could celebrate four Dutch championship titles and four cup wins.

Career

Clubs

Doug Stienstra, who was born to parents of Dutch origin in the Canadian province of British Columbia , began his career as a hockey player with the Columbia Valley Rockets junior team and later played for the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the British Columbia Hockey League . During his studies he played for the Cornell Big Red , the team from Cornell University , with whom he won the 1997 ECAC Hockey , one of the universities of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . 2000/01 he played with the Adirondack Ice Hawks in the United Hockey League . He then moved to Europe, where he first stood on the ice for a year in Great Britain for the Bracknell Bees in the Ice Hockey Superleague . In 2002 he moved to the homeland of his ancestors, where he first played for one year for the Nijmegen Tigers and then for two years with the Amsterdam Bulldogs in the honor division . With the Bulldogs he was able to win both the championship and the cup competition in both years . After these successes, he joined the league competitor Tilburg Trappers , where he continued until his end of career in 2009. With the team from the province of North Brabant , he won the Dutch championship title in 2007 and 2008, and the Dutch cup competition in 2006 and 2008. In 2007 and 2008 he was elected the most valuable player in the honor division, and in 2008 he was also the best assists in the league.

International

Stienstra first played for the Netherlands in November 2004 in the Olympic qualification for the 2006 Winter Games in Turin . He then stood on the ice at the World Championships in Division I in 2005 and 2008 .
