main characters

Dr. Stefan Frank

Dr. Stefan Frank is a gynecologist and surgeon. After the death of his wife, he moved from Berlin to Munich-Bogenhausen to the villa of his father, Dr. Eberhard Frank and also takes over his practice there. At the same time, he has a few beds in the private clinic (Waldner Clinic) of his good friend Dr. Ulrich Waldner and his wife Dr. Ruth Waldner. He always strives for the well-being of his patients with great vigor and is therefore popular with them and many colleagues. Even outside of office hours, he always has an open ear for patients, which often means that his private life is neglected. Throughout the entire series, he has a close friendship with the veterinarian Dr. Susanne Berger, with whom he is now in a relationship and has a son. His relationships in the course of the series are otherwise always short-lived. His first partner Eva, a nurse at the Waldner Clinic, dies of a brain tumor. His second partner, Dr. Bea Gerlach, with whom he is also briefly married and who jointly adopt an orphan, becomes a member of a sect and moves to the USA. After a brief liaison with Vanessa Unger, a friend of Susanne, he married Sophie, a sister of Ruth, at the series finale.

Dr. Eberhard Frank

Dr. Eberhard Frank is an old-school doctor who cannot really get used to his involuntary retirement and is therefore always happy when he is allowed to represent his son in the practice for at least a few hours. Through his cooking skills, he met the Italian entrepreneur Signora Bianchi and moved to live with her in Tuscany, where he died unexpectedly a little later.

Laura Frank

Laura Frank is Stefan's half-sister and Eberhard's daughter, who emerged from an affair. After Eberhard's death, she suddenly appears in the notary's office during the reading of the will and inherits half of the Villa Frank. After the initial rejection, a friendship develops between her and her brother. She works in various odd jobs, including a. also for a short time as a trainee in the Waldner Clinic. She begins a relationship with Dr. Christian Roehrs, however, lets the wedding break with him after she catches him cheating. At the end of the series, she meets an animator with whom she moves to an Italian holiday camp.

Martha Brunnacker

Martha Brunnacker works and lives as a housekeeper in Villa Frank and was also the practice assistant before his son's arrival. She is the good soul of the house and known for her cooking skills. Due to her resolute nature, she initially has problems with Stefan and his new office assistant at the beginning of the series, but gets along well with both of them later.

Louis Brunnacker

Louis Brunnacker is Martha Brunnacker's brother and has also lived in the Villa Frank since he retired. He is very skilled with his craft and for this reason takes on a lot of the work in the villa and on the property. He is hypochondriac and increases regularly into symptoms and diseases. He and Martha have a nephew named Alois who also lives for a short time in the Villa Frank.

Marie-Luise Flanitzer

Marie-Luise Flanitzer is the office assistant that Stefan hires immediately after taking over the practice. When she takes up her position, she moves into the mansard of Villa Frank. At first she got on poorly with Martha due to her carefree and cheeky manner, but developed a good relationship with the other residents in the Frank house and finally with Martha. She has a young son with a bus driver, both of whom are killed in an accident. She marries a former teacher of her young son, but separates from him again. She later begins a relationship with Dr. Tim Eckert, a doctor at the Waldner Clinic, with whom she has a child.

Dr. Susanne Berger

Dr. Susanne Berger is a veterinarian and meets Stefan after a car breaks down. A friendship develops between the two and, for a short time, a relationship that results in a son. During their relationship, Stefan falls in love with her friend Vanessa Unger and ends the relationship with Susanne. After Vanessa suddenly emigrates to South America, Stefan and Susanne reconcile and become close friends again. Susanne later moves to Berlin, but quickly returns to Munich.

Dr. Ulrich Waldner

Dr. Ulrich Waldner is the chief physician in the private clinic he founded. He has two children from his first marriage, Barbara and Kai, who live with him and his new wife in his house. He has been friends with Stefan since he was a student. He suffers severe heart attacks, which he survives, but which lead to severe depression. When he was diagnosed with liver cancer a short time later, he saw no way out of his situation and shot himself in the study of his house.

Dr. Ruth Waldner

Dr. Ruth Waldner is Ulrich's second wife and the stepmother of Barbara and Kai. She works as an anesthetist in the Waldner Clinic. Like her husband, she is close friends with Stefan. She has a sister named Sophie, who marries Stefan at the series finale.

Irene Kadenbach

Irene Kadenbach is head of administration and shareholder of the Waldner Clinic. She is selfish, moody, and resentful. She is hardly interested in the well-being of the patients, rather the reputation of the clinic and profit are important to her, which is why she and Stefan or the Waldners often have differences of opinion. She regularly makes advances to Stefan, whom she knows from his student days, which he always blocks. At the beginning of the series she is married to the consul Karl Kadenbach, but already begins a relationship with Dr. Christian Roehrs, whom she married after her husband's accidental death. In a failed parachute jump, she is so badly injured that she is temporarily paralyzed, but with the help of physiotherapy, she slowly learns to walk again and fully recovered some time later. Another marriage to a clinician fails, whereupon she and Christian grow closer.

Dr. Christian Roehrs

Dr. Christian Roehrs is a surgeon at the Waldner Clinic and specializes in cosmetic surgery. He is an absolute luminary in his field and is well aware of it, which is why he always appears self-confident to arrogant. His relationship with Stefan and the other colleagues is difficult, but improves a little over the course of the series. He is a bon vivant and philanderer who, despite his interim marriage to Irene and the engagement to Laura, regularly flirts with other women such as nurses or patients, which ultimately leads to the failure of both relationships. In the meantime he leaves the Waldner Clinic, but returns after a failed attempt to set up his own beauty clinic. Towards the end of the series, he makes up with Irene.
